It now seems most likely that Camp Sovereignty have reached an agreement with members of the Melbourne City Council in regard to the fire at Kings Domain. In spite of State Government and media efforts to threaten, bully and provoke dissent, a course of action that aims to further the concerns of Camp Sovereignty activists is likely to be agreed.

Such actions include implementing existing commitments, in regard to creating a permanent place that makes Indigenous occupation and history up to the present time and that looks forward to a genuinely just future for all Aboriginal people in Victoria.

In addition, a committment to start an agreement making process that addresses the realities of Indigenous disadvantage is likely to be made, complete with time lines, measures of progress and reporting frameworks.

Should all this happen, it will be a great moment to witness – the first major, public committmnet of this kind being made, following a widely supported public event that carried with it great significance and powerful messages.

WE INVITE AND ENCOURAGE YOU TO COME DOWN TO WITNESS THIS EVENT. PLEASE GATHER AT THE FIRE FROM 2PM ONWARDS AND BRING YOUR FRIENDS!

It is most likely that although the Emergency Declaration (under Cultural Heritage Protection legislation) protecting the fire at Camp Sovereignty in King's Domain will expire on Wednesday 10th at approx 3pm, embers from this fire will be held in anticipation of other fires being lit at some future time, to symbolise this struggle.  And of course there's already ashes in many parts of the State from ceremonies held since Anzac Day!
